EMILY JENNINGS, 22, distant, withdrawn, consumed by guilt. |

As Emily (Rachael Leigh Cook) sees it, her independence and adventurous enrollment in a distant college was the cause of her parents' death; they were on their way to visit her when their plane went down. Her psychological self-torture fogs her mind and her judgment, and she experiments dangerously with substance abuse to numb her pain. |

Mike (Michael Hobert) gives David what help and consolation he can, but there is only so much comfort he can offer. He provides a good ear for David, but since he never went through the tremendous loss that David is experiencing, he can't fully enter into David's world. |
